Community

Community, connection and comfort close to home.

Located at the Hawkesley Community Centre in Kings Norton, our second Communitea Cafe opened in 2021, bringing the same caring ethos into the heart of the local community. This cafe is designed to be a safe, supportive neighbourhood space — somewhere people can drop in, feel welcomed, and connect with others without pressure or expectation.

A hub for togetherness

Communitea Hawkesley offers a relaxed, inclusive environment where people of all ages can enjoy affordable, nutritious food, friendly conversation and meaningful social activities.

Our programme of free community groups and events mirrors the Boldmere cafe, ensuring that residents in Kings Norton can access the same opportunities for support, connection and wellbeing close to home. From creative groups and gentle exercise to shared interests and peer support, Communitea helps people feel part of something bigger.

Inclusive and easy to access

The Hawkesley cafe is fully accessible, thoughtfully designed to ensure no one feels excluded. We're also dog friendly, recognising that for many people, pets play a vital role in everyday wellbeing and social confidence. Here, no one is rushed — people are welcome to stay, chat and take part at their own pace.

One ethos, two communities

Both Communitea Cafes are built on the same simple values:

  • Healthy, affordable food for all
  • Warm, judgement-free spaces
  • Opportunities to connect and belong
  • Activities that support wellbeing and reduce isolation

Whether in Boldmere or Kings Norton, Communitea is a place where everyone is welcome, just as they are.
