Get involved
Make a difference. Build connections.
Volunteering with Age Connects West Midlands is an opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference to people's lives — including your own. Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting older adults and others in need, helping to reduce social isolation, strengthen connections and improve wellbeing.
Why volunteer with us?
Volunteering is about more than helping out — it's about connection, purpose and community. Our volunteers tell us they gain as much as they give, forming natural friendships, building confidence and feeling proud to be part of a caring, inclusive organisation.
By volunteering with us, you will:
- Help tackle loneliness and social isolation
- Support people to stay connected, active and independent
- Strengthen your local community
- Feel valued, supported and appreciated
Befriending
Befriending volunteers provide companionship to people who may be feeling socially isolated.
- Support can be face-to-face or over the telephone, depending on individual needs
- Ideal for volunteers who enjoy listening, chatting and building one-to-one connections
- A deeply rewarding role that can make a huge difference to someone's day — and yours
Friendship Group & Activity Group Volunteers
Share your skills. Spark connection. Give back to your community. These volunteers help create welcoming, social and engaging group sessions — about connection, confidence and belonging, not just activities.
Volunteers support and help shape group sessions by:
- Welcoming attendees and creating a friendly, inclusive atmosphere
- Leading or assisting with activities and encouraging conversation
- Helping individuals feel comfortable, confident and socially connected
Use your skills to make a difference
If you have a skill, hobby or passion, this is a brilliant opportunity to share it — music, crafts, art, exercise, games, or experience as an instructor, tutor or group leader. You don't need to be an expert, just enthusiastic and willing to share.
Flexible and fulfilling
- Time commitment can be as little as 1.5 hours a fortnight
- Roles can be shaped around your interests, confidence and availability
- Full support is provided to help you feel comfortable leading or supporting a group
Café & Charity Shop support
Help create welcoming, social spaces in our cafés and charity shop — meeting customers, supporting the team and making every visitor feel at home.
